Memorial Hospital Topping Out

On Friday, October 31st the last beam was placed on Memorial's new 5 story patient tower.  The event was commerated with a "Topping Out" Party in which guests could watch the last beam be put into place.  Lunch was provided and presentations made by Jim Wood, President & CEO of Memorial, Chris Cameron from Brasfield & Gorrie and Eric Goldman Senior Vice President & COO of Memorial.

In building construction, "Topping Out," is a ceremony held when the last beam is placed at the top of a building.  A topping out ceremony is usually held to commemorate the event.  The ceremony is common in the United States when a tall building is completed.  The last girder to be hoisted is painted white and signed by all the employees to form a "time capsule."
